So What Makes Suncamper Different?

In one word, it’s MANUFACTURING. Suncamper have been manufacturing since 1977 and their motorhomes are constructed like no other in the industry. During that time new designs and technologies have influenced the manufacturing process in a number of ways. Over the years, experience in construction and in the industry have made Suncamper one of the highest quality motorhome builders today.

Through this website you can see how we build them, why we take the steps we do and that we don’t cut corners where it’s easy - in the parts you don’t see.

How do they do it?

It is a combination of technique and materials that give Suncamper such a reputable name. Employees and customers input into designs based on their range of experience and expertise. Employees are trained and focus on a specific area, without the mundane process of only fitting one part over and over. This in effect means that the employee, although in a specific role, is able to appreciate how all the components in that area combine to become a finished product. They will be familiar with all of the processes and fittings. This allows the employee to see where improvements can be made for the overall outcome. The team is supervised by a floor manager, whereby decisions are discussed and evaluated with the motorhome’s other components and construction methods.

After several months of owning a Suncamper motorhome, customers are asked to complete a satisfaction survey covering areas such as vehicle delivery, Suncamper representatives, operation of the motorhome and suggestions for future models. The results are recorded and the feedback initiates improvements and even shapes the design for new models.

The materials used to construct the motorhomes and campervans are of high quality and from reputable suppliers, in which long lasting relationships have been formed. Appliances, fixtures and fittings are all tested for each individual vehicle.

What does this mean for the customer?

Suncamper motorhomes and campervans have a long life and can be resold at a high value. It also means that the customer can have peace of mind. There are a number of experienced people who influence the design process.

The Suncamper models are constructed by Australians for Australian conditions and Australian customers. They are constantly upgraded and improved.

Manufacturing Since 1977
Suncamper was established in 1977 with over 50 years of experience in motorhomes.

Proudly 100% Australian
Suncamper is proudly 100% Australian Owned and Operated, creating jobs for Aussies and manufacturing motorhomes that can handle our climate, huge distances and corrugated 'highways'. We understand that whiping down the Autobahn to France for the weekend is a bit different to a month-long trek through the back-blocks of Queensland. Our motorhomes are built for Australian Conditions and Australian Travellers - Needless to say our motorhome doors are on the gutterside of you motorhome too!

Steel Foundations
The motorhome base is a fully-welded steel frame with close support beams. Thick marine-ply is laid on top as the floor, not as the base foundation.

Unique Uni-Body Construction
The walls, rear, nose and ROOF are fully-welded aluminium frames, not sandwich board or riveted framework. The aluminium has close support beams and is welded, not slotted together. The result being a strong, long-lasting structure.

No Short Cuts
The roof is built the same way as the walls making it strong enough to stand on. It is not a tin or rubber roof. In fact, the roof is even thicker than the walls giving more strength and insulation.

Fully Insulated
The motorhome walls and roof are insulated with a 25mm fire retardant foam. The roof has an air-pocket giving optimal insulation.

Layer upon Layer
The walls and roof consist of the internal ply wall, 25mm aluminium framework with 25mm insulation, an external ply, then the fibreglass. The walls are more than 30mm thick and the roof is more than 45mm. This is more than double and in some cases triple other manufacturers.

Wall Thickness - More Than Meets the Eye
With the walls and roof being ample thickness means that windows, vents, doors and other fittings can be fitted directly onto the walls and roof so they fit flush internally and externally. Seems simple but many manufacturers have thin walls, where windows need to have a decorative trim surrounding them just to be fitted.

Single Piece Roof
The roof is not joined with mouldings or pieces of fibreglass. The fibreglass fot the roof begins under the peak and travels around the peak, over the roof and down the back of the motorhome.

Fitting to Framework
Nothing is fitted into the insulation! Unlike other companies, all windows, vents, doors and other major accessories are fitted directly into the aluminium motorhome framework.

Solid Spots
There are some optional extras or small fittings that will not fit into the aluminium, like small external lithts or TV antennas. The are fitted into "Solid Spots". A Solid Spot is where the insulation is replaced with a 25mm Marine Ply Panel. The unusual fitting can be fixed to that. So even down to the nitty-gritty, nothing is ever screwed or secured into insulation.

Seal the Deal
The Motorhome shell, windows, vents, and doors are sealed.

Appliances and Fittings
Suncamper uses quality and reputable appliances and fixtures, where long-lasting relationships have been formed with the suppliers. Suncamper sources most materials locally and some materials from Europe, America and parts of Asia. New technologies and materials are carefully considered and tested before becoming a feature of our motorhomes.

Ply Cabinetry
Inside, our cabinetry is Plywood, not foam-board coated in wood-look-a-like.

Glued and Screwed
Our cabinetry is glued and screwed together, like in your house. It is not stapled!

Water Tanks
Suncamper fresh and grey (waste) water tanks are specially designed for each model to maximise water storage. They are food-grade polyeurathane, not plastic tanks. This means they are thick, durable, can handle road damage and do not sag or split.

Suspension Flexibility
In the Sherwood and Sherwood 4x4 Air Bag suspesion is fitted in addition to the standard Toyota suspension. This means you can adjust it to your situation. Freeway driving means you can pump them up for smooth sailing. For off-road or corrugated roads reduce the pressure, so there is more flexibility and comfort. It is as easy as checking your tyre pressure and no special equipment is needed.

Under Body Protection
Once the manufacturing is completed a rubber rust-proof sealant is coated to the underside of the entire motorhome. This reduces underbody wear and tear and increases the life of you vehicle, even near salt water.

Testing
Each motorhome undergoes a rigorous pre-delivery test. This is includes running all appliances, leak test, vehicle functions and quality control.

Compliance
Suncamper gets all models tested and complied with the current regulations and authorities. We are active members of the RVMAA (Recreation Vehicle Manufacturers Association of Australia), CCIA (Caravan and Camping Industry Association), MTA (Motor Traders Association), CRVA (Caravan and Recreation Vehicle Association), CMCA (Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia) as well as being a registered Motor Dealer.

Customer Satisfaction
A few months after taking delivery of a Suncamper, owners are sent a Customer Satisfaction Survey. The survey covers areas such as vehicle delivery, Suncamper representatives, product satisfaction and suggestions for future models.

75% of Customers would Definately recommend
a Suncamper to someone else!*

the remaining 25% of Customers would Probably recommend
a Suncamper to someone else!*

Development of New and Existing Models
New models are carefully designed with ideas from experienced motorhomers, industry representatives and even the factory staff to ensure that each area of construction is both lasting and practical.

Existing models are constantly developed incorporating new technologies and materials into tried and tested vehicles. The Customer Satisfaction Surveys are paramount in the development of models, taking into consideration both large and small improvements.

As you can see, Suncamper does not take any short-cuts with manufacturing and takes pride in their products and workmanship. A three-year warranty is testament.

*Based on Customer Satisfaction Survey results as at 11th April 2008. Possible responses are: Definately; Probably; Maybe, Maybe Not; Probably Not; Definately Not.

Manufacturing techniques are constantly being improved and changed. These steps may change at any time without notice.
